Saratov State Technical University
Saratov State Technical University (RU2, SSTU) occupies the 12th place between 170 technical and technological universities of Russian Federation in official rate of Russian Federal Agency for Education. SSTU has about 25000 students including international ones, more than 1900 academic staff works here. In spite of such a short period of international activity (since 1992) SSTU has actively participated in EU educational programs, TEMPUS (Tacis) and has developed close relations with universities in the European Union. Environmental management education in Saratov was established in 1993 at the Environmental Department. The specialists in the environment monitoring and management are prepared at this department, the fist graduation of students was in 2001.
Among teachers there are Doctors and Candidates of biology, chemistry, physics, geography, economics. The areas of activity of faculty members are the management of waste products, the remediation of polluted territories, nature protection, the purifying of sewage, development of transport objects and infrastructure. The investigation aims of ecology department include the development of new bioindicated methods and the creation of biosensors. Complex region programme «The introduction of system of production of clean water for medicine industry aims» was carried out.
The Environmental Department of SSTU also took part in federal ministry programme «The Plants Environment of Low Volga Region». The teachers and students of the department actively participate in different conferences and competitions. Prof. Svetlana Rogacheva (Doctor of Biology Science) has got several grants of International Union of Toxicology, European Union of Toxicology, Russian Fund of Basic Researches and participated in different international congresses. The teaching staff of SSTU Environmental Department are fully committed to improving the quality of environmental management education, introducing innovative technologies in teaching and the dissemination of relevant experience in the Saratov and Volga region. With wide experience in international cooperation and involvement in the Russian and CIS educational collaboration, the leading teachers of SSTU Environmental Department will be able to contribute their knowledge and skills.
