Astrakhan State Technical University
Astrakhan State Technical University (RU3, ASTU) has been contributing to the training of specialists in the following fields: “Bioecology”, “Comprehensive use and protection of water resources” since 1997. At present the University trains specialists for Bachelor’s Degree in the fields of “Biology” and “Ecology and nature management” as well as Master’s Course in the given fields (“Hydrology and ichthyology”, “Microbiology” and “Ecological monitoring”). Only highly qualified teaching staff has been actively involved in training of such specialists: their scientific and research activity being closely connected with solving of ecological problems on the regional and global levels.
ASTU is one of the leading higher education institutions of studying water ecosystems. For many years the University has been carrying out fundamental and applied scientific researches on study of specific biodiversity of the Volga-Akhtuba floodplain, Delta of the Volga River and the Caspian Sea. The system of the management of quality was developed and introduced in 2002-2003 and in 2004 the system was certificated according to the demands of international standards ICO 9001:2000.
The course “Comprehensive systems of management of quality” has been included into Master’s training programs. The students are trained according to programs of ecological management system (ISO 14001:2004). Students of ecological specialities of the university carry out research work and annually participate at Russia and international scientific conferences (Italy, France, Greece). Programs of additional professional education in ecology insure uninterrupted ecological education during the whole life. Postgraduate course of the University provides education in speciality “Ecology”. The Academic council for defending doctor’s degree in scientific specialities of “Hydrology” and “Ichthyology” has been provided in the university. ASTU has been collaborating with Universities, research institutes and establishments of Europe, Asia, Africa, America, Australia and CIS countries. Since 2000 ASTU has been taking part in joint European projects on the program TEMPUS-TACIS. At present the University participates in Tempus SCM as well as in the working out and realization of international project: TEMPUS JEP “Higher education in information technologies: international approach”.
