Astrakhan State Technical University (RU3, ASTU) has been contributing to the training of specialists in the following fields: “Bioecology”, “Comprehensive use and protection of water resources” since 1997. At present the University trains specialists for Bachelor’s Degree in the fields of “Biology” and “Ecology and nature management” as well as Master’s Course in the given fields (“Hydrology and ichthyology”, “Microbiology” and “Ecological monitoring”). Only highly qualified teaching staff has been actively involved in training of such specialists: their scientific and research activity being closely connected with solving of ecological problems on the regional and global levels.
Samara State Technical University (RU4, SamSTU) is one of the higher education leading institutions of the Volga region. The university provides various engineering training practically for all the industries. Since 1992 it trains environmental engineers majoring in “Environment protection and rational use of nature” on the basis of «Chemical engineering and industrial ecology» department. SamSTU has great experience as international projects, for example Project EU “CABRi-Volga” (2005-2007); Tacis Programme (1996-1997); Tempus CD_JEP-25020-2004 project (2006-2008).
Saratov State Technical University (RU2, SSTU) occupies the 12th place between 170 technical and technological universities of Russian Federation in official rate of Russian Federal Agency for Education. SSTU has about 25000 students including international ones, more than 1900 academic staff works here. In spite of such a short period of international activity (since 1992) SSTU has actively participated in EU educational programs, TEMPUS (Tacis) and has developed close relations with universities in the European Union. Environmental management education in Saratov was established in 1993 at the Environmental Department. The specialists in the environment monitoring and management are prepared at this department, the fist graduation of students was in 2001.
The University of Parma (EU 4) was one of the first EU universities to introduce the new three-year plus two-year degree courses according to the Bologna Principles, providing the first new undergraduate courses in 1999. Therefore, the University has a wealth of experience to offer new types of degree courses. The University of Parma has 12 Faculties providing over 100 curricula. Currently there are about 30000 full-time students, getting training at First Level and Specialist levels. Moreover, the University has nearly 50 Doctorate courses and 29 Master Courses of first and second level. The University employs a total of 1124 researchers and professors, and 994 units of technical and administrative personnel.
The University of Stuttgart (EU1) that is the Project Grant Holder has great experience and a long tradition of teaching and research in the area of not only Environmental but also on a very broad scale Engineering, especially combined in the online Master Program on Air Quality Control, Solid Waste and Waste Water Engineering - namely "WASTE". The teaching process at the University of Stuttgart provides students with the education necessary to meet multidisciplinary demands on both environmental management as well as engineering issues. University of Stuttgart has great experience based on profound knowledge of environmental technology and modern teaching methods in virtual online Master Courses.
Founded in 1816, the University of Warsaw (WU) (EU 3) is the largest university in Poland. The University promotes interdisciplinary approaches, integrating research methods from diverse fields. The University promotes the development of the social sciences, economics, modern languages, informatics, biotechnologies and applied physics. The university is recognized in Poland and throughout the world as a leading center. The degree courses are designed in accordance with international academic standards, while Faculties have updated their curricula in response to Poland’s new political and financial needs. The University of Warsaw cooperates with 76 partners in 34 countries on the basis of bilateral agreements. The institution actively participates in activities of numerous organizations, associations and international networks. At European level there are 67 European research projects which represent the different thematic priorities and programme instruments (FP6 and FP5).
Tupolev Kazan State Technical University (RU5) is a modern centre of education, science and culture, it is one of the best technical universities in Russia nowadays. Tupolev Kazan State Technical University comprises the following institutes and faculties: Institute of Aviation, Land Vehicles and Energy, Institute of Radio-Engineering and Telecommunication systems, Engineering and Economic Institute, Faculty of Automation and Electronics, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, Faculty of Technical Cybernetics and Computer Science, Humanities Faculty and Psychology Faculty.
Universidad Politécnica de Catalunya-UPC (ES) (EU 2) is a public institution which was created in 1971 like the merger of several Engineering and Architecture Schools, existing from 150 years ago, and offers a broad range of technical careers. The student number is 30000, with 300 teachers, 39 departments and 3 Institutes. The Board of Governors has approved the Second Environment Plan for the 2002-2005 period. Although the greening process is gradual and long-term, a positive evolution can be observed in most indicators for this first phase of the greening process.
Volgograd State Technical University (RU1, VSTU) is one of the largest universities in the Volga region, an institution of higher education with versatile activities, preparing highly-qualified specialists in compliance with the multistage system of education. The university's scientific schools are well known in both our country and abroad. VSTU has a great experience of participation in the following international projects: Tempus JEP-25070-2004, Tempus JEP-25020-2004, Tempus JEP-25188-2004, Tempus JEP-26108-2005, Tempus JEP-27082-2006.
Professor Romà Puiggermanal is integrated in project activities to enhance the expertise of engineering in the project results. He has great experience as an industrial engineer, in distance learning implementation and will contribute to preparation meetings, workshops and co-ordination meetings. He has also great experience in contributing in Tempus projects which he has conducted with EU1 and other partners (e.g. Jep 23250-2002, Jep 24244, etc.)
Professor Zoran Ribarovic is specialized in solid waste disposal. In this domain, he worked very intensively with the Towns of Split, Zagreb and Rijeka. He works at the Faculty for Civil Engineering and Architecture in Split, Department of Building Organisation and Economy of Split University, the second largest University in Croatia and the leading scientific and educational center.
